We were asked to help with a special WOODY Street rod project....click here
Boyd Coddington asked us to be a part of auto design history and I said yes.
We visited his garage and took template dimensions right off the street rod.
Duane asked me to take the shapes down as Discovery filmed their work.
The templates were then returned to our WOODY SHOP to start the process.
These templates let us begin the roughing stage without the car present.
Boyd had the Street rod eventually delivered along with the Discovery film crew.
Once in position we wasted no time getting started on the frames.......
The first thing to do was to remove the tape placed at the Boyd garage.
We were able to let the film crew, Eric and Raffi, see all steps to the process.
We were also able to have help from our assistant Jim as we shaped parts.
This was what is called "Real TV" where almost everything is caught on tape.
We also had a number of PT's in the show as we installed parts. vert-doors
Bobby took a seat in our Trike WOODY. A 475 H.P. and 3 wheels ...WOW!
We had Chris make a final check all mounting holes for install of the frames.
The shape of this WOODY ended up very clean and fast looking.
All our WOODies were built in house. These projects take weeks to complete.
We also restore older woodies. Here is a 1953 Buick we are refinishing.
Here is a picture of how the full design looks before finish is applied.
Once completed we rolled the Street rod out ready for the flatbed.
Our Main crew for this project: left to Right....Kevin, Bobby, Raffi, Eric, Alex, Chris, Jim, and PT Bob.
Bob enjoyed working with Charlie in the Boyd Body Shop on Woody final steps.
Duane may sound tough but he's really a nice person who enjoys his work.
Boyd Coddington is one of Bob's mentors and it was a great privilege to help him. Watch for these WOODY STREETROD episodes starting Jan -7th, 2005 Click here to see the schedule for American Hot Rod http://dsc.discovery.com/schedule/series.jsp?series=24613&gid=12300&channel=DSC |
